A Second Chance, Not a Qualification
paiN's road to Porto didn't go through form — it went through BetBoom's visa problems, which forced the org to withdraw and opened a slot for the closed qualifier's highest seed instead. That's a fair summary of paiN's 2026 overall: a group-stage exit at the IEM Cologne Major, an early group-stage exit at the Esports World Cup as well, but also a real title in April at Circuit X Mayhem São Paulo, beating Gaimin Gladiators 3-1 in the final. The roster has been mostly settled since — saffee returned in April, filling in for nqz and later making the signing permanent, a real homecoming story for a player who last played for the org back in early 2022.
FURIA's Busiest Summer, With No Break In Sight
FURIA's unchanged core of FalleN, yuurih, KSCERATO, YEKINDAR and molodoy has barely left a big stage all year — a runner-up finish at the IEM Cologne Major in June, then an EWC 2026 run that beat Aurora and G2 (YEKINDAR rated 1.45 in that quarterfinal) before losing to FUT in the semifinal and Legacy in the bronze match, finishing 4th. That tournament ended August 23. This match is August 26. Whether that workload catches up with FURIA against a lower-ranked opponent, or their current form simply carries through, is the real question this match actually poses.
A Lopsided History, No 2026 Meeting Yet
FURIA lead the all-time head-to-head comfortably and won their only meeting so far this year, 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 23 in March. Both teams were drawn into the same EWC 2026 group without ever actually playing each other there, so this is their first meeting since. FURIA's roster is entirely unchanged from that March win; paiN have made one swap (saffee for nqz) since.
